Why do Republicans always promise tax cuts and paint Dems as big taxers while running for office?

July 20th, 2009
Mac asked:

Painting Democrats as “big taxers’ is the oldest trick in the GOP playbook. Reagan did in against Carter and then came into office and waged a full on war on the poorest of our country with his Reaganomics while pandering to the extreme right social agenda. It is clear he was the grand daddy of the “tickle down Voodoo economics. Then it was George H. W. Bush who said “read my lips: no more taxes” while running against Dukakis. He came into office ran a 4 trillion dollar debt and record job losses,,then raised the gas tax while in office trying to debt relief. Nothing worked until Clinton came in and cleaned up the mess and left office with a balanced budget and a surplus. Then comes G. W. Bush promising tax cuts saying Gore will raise taxes,,and we all know how that story ended. With a hefty $700 billion tax burden and a sky rocketing national deficit. All the while he gave $750,000 average tax cut to the fortune 500 CEOs.
That brings us to McCain,, talking about tax cuts for the wealthy. He is going to increase the $750,000 fortune 500 CEO Bush tax cut. He is also going to tax our health benefits for first time in history and has a plan to buy toxic mortgages at 100% face value so we the tax payers can bail out banks that gave criminal loans and fools who signed up for these criminal loans while using the equity from their houses to buy RVs and go on vacations. How is that not spreading the wealth? Oh, and he is planning on balancing the budget while we are headed to a recession. Did McCain miss economics 101 class? (Obama said he will be working on a deficit till the economic crisis ends) Also he is going to continue this $10 billion/month Iraq war with no ending in sight. His only form of ‘savings’ is cutting ear marks and pork barrel which accounts for less than 1% of the federal budget. Does McCain know how to grow money on trees?

I have a judgement against me and they are threatening to take my property that is paid for ( cars and motorcycle ) can I make payments on this debt or be a part of a debt relief group that makes the deal with the creditor. I just don’t want to sell what I have and I wish to get them off my back. Missouri resident.

Need Credit Relief Referrals?

July 20th, 2009
gnlgates asked:

Anyone know how to get credit card companies to work with you BEFORE you ruin your credit with missed payments? It seems they all tell me my accounts are fine, even though they won’t be soon,….I don’t want to have to ruin my credit score before they are willing to work with me to pay off my debts at lower interest rates or payments. Any advice?

Ricky

Doesn’t it seem a bit unfair that we aren’t getting any relief, yet we are paying for it all?

And when we do it is a measly $600? With the $700B they spent on Wall street they estimated that every single American could have gotten $2000. That would have been $10000 just for my family. We could have paid off our debts and had money to spare. We could have repaired our credit and had a fresh start. But no. All the rich corps get our hard earned money and I am sick of hearing about how it will help me in the long run. My husband has 2 jobs and I work at home plus take care f my kids and we still have no money and are living paycheck to paycheck. We receive no public assistance whatsoever. I don’t know about you, but I could use some relief right now instead of the ‘long run’. If they can keep coming up with billions of dollars for companies, I say it is time for us to take a stand before we all starve to death and it is too late.

Credit card releif question.PLEASE HELP?

July 19th, 2009
Josh asked:

Okay…so I pay a little bit more then the minimum fee every month and my balance still never seems to go down!!!! Last month I paid $100 and my balance only went down about $30! All the rest went to finance charges. I’m living pay check to pay check and I can’t afford to pay much more than that. This card is killing me! I asked the company (WaMu…previously Providian) to lower it. But they said no. I’ve gotten denied for other “blance transfer” offers I see online. But my credit is decent (about 670). I owe about $3500 on it and I’ve been stuck at that amout for months. And I don’t even use the card anymore.

Does anyone know of any good card i can do a balance transfer on? Or any program for smaller debt relief? I feel so hopeless.

Why Why WHY?

That’s it…if i don’t get this out of me i’m going to explode. And my apologies to all other users who this message does not apply to - just give me a pass on this one will you?

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY USELESS ANSWERS?

USELESS - as in “While your asking a legitimate question, let me just butt in and answer you with a sentance that has absolutely nothing to do with your question - go me!! Your stupid you ______(fill in the blank)”

[I exclude funny answers....but then again not many answers have enough Wit to be considered as such.]

You know a few weeks ago i was listening to the radio about poverty and debt relief - person calls in and starts talking about Jesus…and more Jesus…and more Jesus…

Couple days ago a US diplomat talking said “our thoughts and prayers go out to the Burmese monks” only to get a phone call from an Atheist about how its illogical to pray..

Both respondents of course, backed away from offering up comment/solution to the actual question
being asked. “Oh, its not my place to say.” “Oh, i certinaly do not have a solution to what’s going on in Burma - i didn’t know you meant to say “Thoughts and Prayers” as a turn of Phrase.”

WHAT THE @#$*&@#$@?
Frankly - regardless of the differences of both people’s perspectives, their attitudes/demeanor are the same.

“I’m a Talking Head - here let me talk about the only way i know how to engage reality.”

Is it so hard really, just to answer someone else’s question without drifting off into an aside?
LOL - Another talking head….
Princess - everyones got a right to an opinion. (and no your not ticking me off..)

But come on people - man/woman walks into the forum with a legitimate question (not one of those confrontational ones - those folks are asking for a fight)..

If you have something of worth to say - fine. If not, your just wating breathe.

Credit consolidation/credit lawyers? Need some advice?

July 17th, 2009
SBN asked:

I am about 13,000 in debt (all credit cars) and signed up for a credit consolidation deal (US debt relief). They are taking 200 a month and once they have enough to bargain with my creditors they make an offer. This is taking forever. One of my friends was telling me I could get a credit lawyer that will send a letter to all the creditors asking them to verify the debt and if they don’t get it back in time the debt is removed completely along with the negative marks on my credit history. This seems way to easy so I’m wondering how true it is or how well it works. Has any one done this and is it a good idea?

I need advice from people who have or are going through a bankruptcy?

July 17th, 2009
kris asked:

Hello everyone.I need responses from people about their bankruptcy and what is involved in them.We have an extremely huge amount of credit card bills and some medical bills.Even with debt relief help we could never make the payments every month. We own our house and have a car payment. Both are current. We can not sell the house cause there is no equity in it cause like so many others we refinanced with the whole sub prime mortgage scandal. So the house is not even worth what we owe on it.I am told that we can file and still keep our house.I am angry at myself for not being more financially responsible. We have a 4 year old and I do not want him to be as financially irresponsible as we were.Eventually the cards began to be used for everyday expenses that we just couldnt keep up with.If we dont file then I risk the chance of being sued or liens on the house.I want a better life for my family. So my question is how has bankruptcy changed your life? And do you feel any relief.Oh,we live in the state of Pa.Thanks everyone.
Our credit card debt is 30,000 more than we make in one year. And not paying your bills stay on your credit report for the same amount of time.
Thank you so much SP.I am so freakin out about this whole situation.Your advice gave me some relief. Thanks again.
