why is the federal government giving away all of our money to those who squandered it?

July 17th, 2009
raiderone asked:

I can not believe that the lawmakers we voted into office have the gall to give a trillion dollars or more to the very people who wasted it in the first place. Why doesn’t (or didn’t) the government give each taxpayer $7,500 or more if earning less than $250,000 instead. It would help some people with debt relief, some would go to savings, some people would go shopping, and some would put a down payment on a badly needed new car. Everybody wins! Banks get money in the form of debt repayment and savings, which gives them capital to loan out, car makers sell more cars, retailers sell more merchandise. And as an added bonus, WE WON’T FEEL LIKE WE HAVE BEEN CHEATED BY OUR LAWMAKERS. What do you think?

Obama, Hagel, Cantwell, Smith Hail Committee Passage of the Global Poverty Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA) today hailed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s passage of the Global Poverty Act (S.2433), which requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive policy to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief, and coordination with the international community, businesses and NGOs.

Hypothetical Equity Line/Short Sale Question?

July 14th, 2009
Lady B asked:

If someone is potentially facing a short sale but still has 30k left on an equity line, would it be possible for that person to use the 30k to pay off student loans and other debts with the equity line if they know they are already facing a short sale or foreclosure? Due to the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act that was just enacted, a person would no longer have to pay tax on the debt forgiveness, so therefore the additional money used from the equity line would not be taxed. Would it be smart to pay off student loans with this money if you already knew you would lose the house?
Please no mean answers, I’m asking hypothetically if it would be possible to use this $$ without penalty.

HELP! Should I file Bankruptcy?

July 14th, 2009
JESSICA CAMILA asked:

Ok, Just people who actually know about this answer. And no smart answers please. I’m 19 years old and have about 18,000 in debt. When i was 17 .. a company sent me a credit card although i was under age with a really high limit, I don’t remember applying for it but obviously the birth date must of been incorrect. I always paid everything on time and had a credit score of 734. A few things happened and i fell behind. Now I’m paying one of the credit cards which is 350 a month. Plus car payments and all. I’m worried that i won’t be able to file bankruptcy because of that credit card, what if they have the wrong birth date? What will happened? Because that would be illegal right?. I need some sort of debt relief program. Any suggestions??

** IF I FILE BANKRUPTCY , HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN BUY A HOUSE? HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO REPAIR MY CREDIT. HOW LONG UNTIL THE BANKRUPTCY IS REMOVED FROM MY CREDIT?? AND ALSO DOES IT AFFECT ME GETTING A JOB, GETTING INTO SCHOOL OR ANYTHING???

My friend foreclosed his primary home and moved to his second home, foreclosed it too. Any tax consequences ?

July 13th, 2009
mandy asked:

My friend foreclosed his primary home. He lived there for 2 years.
He also had a second home which he has owned for last 5 years. He had rented out his second home for last 2 years and now he moved to his second home. so technically has has stayed in his second house for 3 years in last five years. Would this be counted as his primary residence now, once he is living there for the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act of 2007.

I assume the first house also qualified for Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act of 2007.
Isn’t the definition of a primary residence that you have to live in it for 2 out of last 5 years. Why would that be considered as an investment property. My friend did not do this at the same time. There was a gap of 6 months between both foreclosures.
