A friend of mine went through this. Be careful. You might want to hide your car until the paperwork is sent and received by the bank or car loan company. If you are behind on payments they probably have you pegged for repossession.

Try and be creative because the people who will repossess your car are usually very creative people themselves and will go to your work. Your references houses. Your relatives houses that you used as a reference etc.

One guy I knew was putting off repossession went to the DMV and told them his license plate was stolen and they gave him a new one for 10 bucks. He put an envelope on the far left side of his dashboard to cover the metal tag with the VIN # on it and he parked it a block away from work. He finally got some money 2 months later and settled up and they didn’t get his car.

Remember that the loan company doesn’t have to stop repossession until after they have received the letter from the court/attorney. I would hide it well and far and not with friends or employers or relatives… I know it kinda sucks but that’s what you gotta do to beat the time it takes for court to stop collection or repossession…

Good Luck… I hope this helps..

After you file, the attorney sends out letters to all of your creditors stating you filed for BK. then Generally within a month after you file for BK - they have a hearing where all of your creditors can get involved to settle for amounts & etc
