I need advice from people who have or are going through a bankruptcy?

kris asked:

Hello everyone.I need responses from people about their bankruptcy and what is involved in them.We have an extremely huge amount of credit card bills and some medical bills.Even with debt relief help we could never make the payments every month. We own our house and have a car payment. Both are current. We can not sell the house cause there is no equity in it cause like so many others we refinanced with the whole sub prime mortgage scandal. So the house is not even worth what we owe on it.I am told that we can file and still keep our house.I am angry at myself for not being more financially responsible. We have a 4 year old and I do not want him to be as financially irresponsible as we were.Eventually the cards began to be used for everyday expenses that we just couldnt keep up with.If we dont file then I risk the chance of being sued or liens on the house.I want a better life for my family. So my question is how has bankruptcy changed your life? And do you feel any relief.Oh,we live in the state of Pa.Thanks everyone.
Our credit card debt is 30,000 more than we make in one year. And not paying your bills stay on your credit report for the same amount of time.
Thank you so much SP.I am so freakin out about this whole situation.Your advice gave me some relief. Thanks again.

Not sure what to do or whats best. debt help?

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009
Sunni asked:

My ex left me with around 13,000 in credit card debt and a car that is 14,000 from being paid off. The total monthly payments for these are around 800. I only make 800 a month right now and still have to pay rent, gas, electric and so on. I joined US Debt Relief to help with the credit cards (bringing the total payments to 550 a month including the car) but am still not able to cover the rest of the bills. My mom thinks bankruptcy might be the only way to go although we are both a little worried about the aftermath since I am only 22 and it will hinder me from getting into a house or anything until i am 32. I’m not sure if it could hurt much worse then the debt consolidation because they are letting all my accounts go bad so they can make offers and some of the cards wont be paid on in 3 to 5 years. Any advice from people who have gone through this would be great! Thanks in advance.

a1beachfreak asked:

I’ve had a really good paying job for five years. I didn’t think I’d be faced with an inability to pay my bills, but I just found out my plant will be closing in May. I don’t doubt I’ll find another job, but one making the kind of money I need is doubtful. I don’t want to file bankruptcy, but some kind of a helping hand would be great. I don’t want to be scammed…..I want to be helped! Any ideas about legitimate debt reduction?

What Are My Debt Relief Options?

Debt relief
Anthony Dean asked:

If you are in debt the worst thing you can do is pretend the problem doesn’t exist; admitting there is a problem is a good start as it will allow the person to seek help and regain control of their finances. Seeking debt relief means that you admitted you are in trouble but you must take the next steps seriously as there is a great deal to lose otherwise. The only way out of this situation is by learning how to control your money.

The first thing to avoid is being disturbed by the situation as this will hinder any positive action on your part. It is often the case where a loan is taken out but circumstances change and it becomes a burden but you need to continue the repayments.

The easiest way to approach this is to calculate everything you have to pay out regularly both necessities and those inconsequential items that mount up each month. Cut the credit card purchases by introducing a habit of paying in cash as this will restrict your expenditure to the amount of cash you are carrying.

You will be surprised to learn that spare money is available which can be put to good use; saving it as part of your debt relief solution, even if it takes a while for it to be worth anything. Also, putting a limit on unnecessary expenses such as entertainment, until the time you have paid off your creditors, any excess money in the repayment fund can be used for this purpose.

There are times when debts are mounting and there is equity in your home it may seem like a good idea to refinance your mortgage and pay off your debts but this just means they will last much longer. Before you go down this route you must think about why you want this option when there are others that can be used.

One method of reducing the amount of cash paid out monthly, albeit a short term one, is to use cash out on your credit card to pay for the monthly installment. Where the situation is so bad that there are no other solutions, then bankruptcy should be considered but only after an in depth discussion with a debt counselor or a bankruptcy attorney.

Unfortunately, some people in debt avoid bankruptcy and resort to using their individual retirement account to help pay their debts but you are on a slippery slope if you take this route. Any future tax deferred returns will be lost with this action and it should never be used as a quick fix when other good solid ways for debt relief are available but might require a little effort.

Personal Debt Relief

Friday, September 12th, 2008
debt relief
Martin Lukac asked:

Debt relief is the forgiveness or partial forgiveness of a debt. Other definitions have also been applied such as the slowing of a debt or the stopping of the interest on the debt as well. In terms of personal relief this has been seen to be an escalating problem over the last few years in many places around the world. This problem is by no means limited to the United States but it is prominently seen there as the figures correlate to the fact that the average American household has debt to as much as $19000 that is separate from their mortgage payments. This means that they can often have mortgage payments as well as this debt and that is an astronomical figure to deal with.

With the presence of such large debt loads it is no wonder that there are many problems being faced by individuals in the repayment of these loans. These individuals are continually burdened by the debt that they have and often see this debt increasing with interest rates. They are consumed by the debt and the mistake that is often undertaken is that they continue to create more debt to repay older debts. This can eventually lead to bankruptcy and much care must be followed when dealing with the issue of debt.

When you are in need of debt relief the impulse is to be persuaded into signing up with one of the debt consolidation firms on the market. This option may work for some but for many it can spell disaster for many. These companies that are private companies promote themselves as debt relief organizations use marketing ploys to persuade people to turn to them but do not offer the best personalized solutions to reducing debt. They are often interested in the consolidation of the loans by using the property that you have as security and making the loans into a mortgage repayment. Many a person has lost their home in this way.

When debt is a concern that is consuming you should first turn to a consumer’s association that provides advice before turning to the commercialized companies. They will more often than not have experience with the matter and be able to guide you to the better options for debt forgiveness. Their interest is not in getting you to use your home as security for a loan but in leading you to debt free living.

In addition to providing you with links to ways to debt relief and agreements with debt relief companies that are credible you will be taught what you are doing wrong by the provision of tips. You may even receive financial planning advice that can serve you well and avoid you getting yourself into the same situation again. This is important as most often the problem lies with the individual living above their means and the problem is not solved with debt relief and the person will soon go back into debt again.
