Should it be up to the citizens of the US to pay for this, especially since we are 10 trillion in debt?

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Congressman Adam Smith (D-WA) today hailed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s passage of the Global Poverty Act (S.2433), which requires the President to develop and implement a comprehensive policy to cut extreme global poverty in half by 2015 through aid, trade, debt relief, and coordination with the international community, businesses and NGOs. why is the federal government giving away all of our money to those who squandered it?

raiderone asked:

I can not believe that the lawmakers we voted into office have the gall to give a trillion dollars or more to the very people who wasted it in the first place. Why doesn’t (or didn’t) the government give each taxpayer $7,500 or more if earning less than $250,000 instead. It would help some people with debt relief, some would go to savings, some people would go shopping, and some would put a down payment on a badly needed new car. Everybody wins! Banks get money in the form of debt repayment and savings, which gives them capital to loan out, car makers sell more cars, retailers sell more merchandise. And as an added bonus, WE WON’T FEEL LIKE WE HAVE BEEN CHEATED BY OUR LAWMAKERS. What do you think?

What allows the US economy to stay afloat, regarding its mountain of debt?

Sunday, March 8th, 2009
Justin asked:

I am curious as to what final leg(s) we are left standing on? Obviously our economy can be roughly translated as “debt”. As our ability to borrow dwindles, so goes our economy.

Obviously our economy was way overheated in the late 90’s. So now we are contracting; I saw an article comparing Japan of the late 80’s to our economy at its peak, and thought it’s not coincidental that roughly the same thing is happening in the US.

Of course our total outstanding national debt sits around $54-55 trillion(!) range.

How can we possibly function in this capacity?
